Fresh from the KilnThe Weekly Edit 08 - Oct 24th, 2023It’s been a bit of a slow return to the studio. In our short history of preparing for markets the week after is a bit of a go slow: unpacking, returning product to shelves, thinking about how the market went and what we can do better next time. Being pretty new to the market scene we don’t have a lot of expectation, it is more about connecting with people and getting ideas and really just playing at this point. We created a little treasure chest of retired pieces that seemed to work a treat, it felt like a fun market thing to do, fossicking for treasures and I loved watching people rummage through to find something they could take home and hopefully ‘treasure’. Welcome to the those who subscribed to our newsletter at the market. I hope you enjoy receiving our ‘Fresh from the Kiln’ newsletters in your inbox. I have added some new products to the website this week that I didn’t get a chance to load before the market including some new glaze colour variations to our base Neo range, a few of which I go into detail with below. I will continue doing this for next week’s drop and then start glaze firing again late next week with a batch of bisque items I have ready to go. In the studio this week it is back to making and creating sculptural pieces for the art fair, details below. Neo Caramel (Two tone)Neo is our buttery, matte, base glaze with a range of colour variations, mostly of a rustic, earthy nature. We often combine it with another glaze to create contrast, a floating gloss or textural cover glaze. Neo Caramel is a new toffee coloured base glaze which we’ve combined here with a textured, slightly metallic, gold chocolate cover glaze. The Neo Caramel vase below is combined with brush strokes of a magnesium glaze that produces, where thick, a white crackle finish to lighter brush strokes of contrasting colour to the base glaze. Neo Copper JewelI’ve just started experimenting with colour with this base glaze. It’s probably tricky to see here but the base glaze is a muted matte, copper green which is fairly understated on its own. In combination with two other glazes we call 'cover' glazes that run halfway over the top of the base matte glaze, it has produced a gloss finish and added bluey emerald green hues by way of reaction and combination. Here’s the same glaze showing the matte copper base glaze covering most of the base of this bowl and side gloss dip of the bluey green glaze. We’ve also added the leggy planter below to the website, which is a mix of the base matte green glaze with Neo Caramel legs. That’s this week’s round up of ‘Fresh from the Kiln’! Market News I am now preparing sculptural pieces for the Inner West Art Fair at The Substation in Newport on the weekend of 24-26 November. Tickets available for Friday night opening (includes a drink and first viewing of art), General Admission Sat and Sun or Sunday Art Breakfast. The SUNDAY ART BREAKFAST ticket includes your ticket into the fair on Sunday 26th from 10am, a croissant by CANDIED BAKERY and a coffee. |

Fresh from the Kiln The Weekly Edit 06 - Sept 24th, 2023 Lots of beautiful pieces out of the kiln this week. Very happy with some of the variations of our Neo matte glaze, a beautiful two tone caramel tan and chocolate on a couple of mugs. Perfect for hot chocolate, cappuccinos and lattes. A large bowl using our matte charcoal glaze with a glossy ocean cover glaze would make a lovely special occasion gift. I’m loving everything rustic at the moment, it feels as if the world is running at a...
